The 2011 Midwest Education Technology Conference took place in February at the St. Charles Convention Center. METC is a program of Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis, and takes place annually. This year’s theme was Motivate, Engage, Transform, Connect. The conference has several strands, including distance learning, 21st century skills, Web 2.0 and media literacy. Participants and presenters come from all over the country to attend. Select sessions from METC featured speakers are archived and available on the conference website: METCconference.org.
In 2011, one of METC’s featured speakers was Renee Hobbs, who was part of the media literacy strand. Hobbs spoke on copyright clarity. Hobbs is one of the leading authorities on media literacy education in the United States. She is a professor at the School of Communications and Theater at Temple University in Philadelphia. She has raised over $2.5 million to support articles, created multimedia curriculum resources and offered professional development programs on four continents to advance the quality of media literacy education in the United States and around the world.
